Why did GIRLSET become more successfull than VCHA?
Global group GIRLSET is dominating the internet with their newest single ‘CHAT’ and their success is giving birth to a burning question: Why did GIRLSET turn out to be a brand far more successful than VCHA?
VCHA’s History
VCHA made their debut through A2K (America2Korea), a reality show by JYP Entertainment and Republic Records.
Initially a 6-member group, they sustained the loss of 2 members: KG, who filed a lawsuit against JYP Ent. to terminate her contract for experiencing incidents of abuse and mistreatment from staff, and Kaylee, who reached a mutual agreement with the agency to part ways.
The group officially ended activities on August 6, 2025.

Timing
VCHA’s first attempt towards fame was before KATSEYE’s global success. The concept of a global group with influences from the k-pop industry was still foreign to the audience. Now GIRLSET is operating in a market where the idea of a non-Korean, globally marketed girl group using K-pop-style training and performance isn’t nearly as unusual.
KATSEYE basically proved there is an audience for this model. So GIRLSET doesn’t have to convince people: the market has already seen this.
From Korea to a Global Market
It might sound crazy, but the main issue in VCHA’s promotions was geographical.
There seemed to be an uncertainty on whether their music should be promoted to a k-pop or global audience. The positioning wasn’t westernized enough for the global audience, but also not k-pop enough.
Seeing the k-pop scene is oversaturated, after the rebrand, GIRLSET opted to confidently target the global market instead of the Korean. The group doesn’t anymore represent “6 American girls doing k-pop”, but more of “trendsetters in the global music scene”.
It’s the same concept that worked in the global scene for KATSEYE and led them to the undeniable popularity and recognition they enjoy today.

Promotions
GIRLSET’s promotions appear very planned and targeted. The group is using a very interesting approach.
With only 4 released songs up to this day, they focus on building a community and promoting music through it. Collaboration with RIOT Games centered around VALORANT, close friends access for fans who have pre-saved the track and even the launch of a Discord server where fans can interact and discuss topics such as gaming, fashion, food and more.
A Different Concept
What GIRLSET brought to the table was a complete contrast to VCHA’s concept. Darker, more mature, fashion-oriented and hip-hop-influenced, while VCHA radiated a youthful, sweet and cheerful vibe with vibrant colors. It could be considered generic and less memorable, easy to get lost among the mass release of songs in the industry.
Musical Identity
After taking a break to conclude to the sound that best matches them, GIRLSET returned with a series of tracks that bore no similarity to VCHA’s.
VCHA’s musical identity was characterized by upbeat tracks, youthful lyrics and an overall clean, non-experimental production. GIRLSET, on the other hand, seem to be aiming for what worked for the global supergroup KATSEYE: alternative pop, more mature lyrics, confidence and variety in track structure.
In other words, you could be listening to VCHA thinking “Oh, I’m vibing to this song”, but could you recognize it’s VCHA? GIRLSET is doing exactly this: building a “Wait, this sounds like GIRLSET” type of audio.
