A unique Deck of KARD which arrives in Greece

Throughout the years, numerous groups have debuted in K-pop with a variety of concepts, some of which you might have never heard or seen before. Since K-pop can often feel like a race for attention, some groups manage to stand out while others don’t get the recognition they deserve. One concept we don’t see very often in this industry, or at least doesn’t thrive often, is a co-ed/mixed group.

There were a few throughout the years, yet only one of them got significant attention during the newer generations that managed to maintain their identity while active for years in the industry.

KARD – The name of the group that became well-known early in its career.

You probably have heard their name the past few years at some point. But who exactly are they?

KARD is a 4 member group consisting of 2 male members and 2 female members.

In more detail:

They were formed by DSP media, a company known for groups like Sechskies, FIN.K.L, SS501, KARA, April and Young Posse.

In 2016, they released their first pre-debut song “Oh nana”, followed by “Don’t recall” and “Rumor” in 2017. With just these 3 releases they had already captured the attention of kpop fans of that time and became quite popular for a group that hadn’t even officially debuted. They officially debuted later the same year with the EP HOLA HOLA featuring the title track of the same name.

But, except from their co-ed group concept, do they have any other theme?

The answer to that question is YES.

The group’s entire concept, as its name implies, is based on a deck of cards. Because of that each member is representing an individual card and suit.

J.Seph is the ace and spades, BM is the king and clubs, Somin is the black joker and hearts, Jiwoo is the color joker and diamonds. But that’s not where it ends! The fans also represent a card – the HIDDEN KARD- which is also their fandom name!

What about their music?

Something noticeable about KARD is that they always keep their signature sound while at the same time succesfully experimenting something new.

Their dynamic choreography, combined with the mix of EDM, tropical house, reggaeton, moombahton, latin pop, hip hop and trap gives their music a distinctive sound. At the same time their MVs explore a variety of different concepts, something their fans absolutely love!

Their discography is a unique touch in K-pop helping them appeal to a wider audience, mainly outside of South Korea .

Some of their most popular songs are:

Don’t recall (which also has a HIDDEN ver which is an english version of the song)

Oh nana (HIDDEN ver)
ICKY
Bomb Bomb
Gunshot
Cake (a B-side track of ICKY album)

And now you are probably wondering about their success as a group, right?

As mentioned above, their start was kind of successful for a group that hadn’t even made their official debut, considering they came from a company that was considered relatively small compared to the major entertainment companies dominating the industry.

Throughout the years they were quite successful for a K-pop co-ed group especially in North and South America. In their homeland however, South Korea, their popularity has remained small. This can be attributed to several factors, including limited promotions and relatively infrequent releases.

Compared to other K-pop groups KARD don’t release music as often, and when they do, their promotions except from the standard music shows and their own online content can be quite limited. Even so, they have managed to have an incredibly dedicated fanbase, which makes them a pretty successful group, especially among the co-ed groups.

Finally, why are we introducing them now?

Because they are coming to Greece!

KARD will have one of their concerts on 17th of September in Greece as part of their Europe Tour! As someone who has personally loved them for years, this is a concert I’ve been waiting to attend since their pre-debut days.

With the news of the group entering a hiatus, it felt like the perfect time to introduce KARD to anyone who might not know them yet. The members have reassured fans a lot of times that they intend to return at some point. So whether you’re a new fan or a fellow K-pop fan who happened to never come across their music, now is a great time to get to know them.

So, what better way to introduce them than right before they come to Greece and the beginning of their new chapter?

Bonus!

For me, there’s also an extra reason why this visit feels more special.

When BM was asked in an interview with Reddit AMA in 2017 he mentioned Greece for the first time to the question “What country are you looking forward to visiting most on your world tour?”

Now that they are finally coming to Greece! And who knows? Hopefully, they will be able to experience and visit a little bit more beyond the stage.

Until then, all that’s left to say is Welcome to Greece dear KARD!

As for everyone that will join us at the concert, we hope you will have an amazing time! We cannot wait to hear your thoughts about KARD and their upcoming concert! Until then, we will wait for you there to enjoy the music and make memories together!
